The Open Government Initiative is an effort by the administration of President of the United States Barack Obama to "creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government.".〔http://www.whitehouse.gov/open〕 The directive starting this initiative was issued on January 20, 2009, Obama's first day in office.〔http://www.nextgov.com/nextgov/ng_20090521_4542.php〕 The philosophy of the initiative is that the government should be transparent, participatory and collaborative.
